In 2003, after teaching in Montevideo, I took a holiday in Argentina together with Terry Hoy, who had also taught on the same course. We share an interest in bird watching. We recorded 100 species - in the middle of their winter!
We spent two days exploring Buenos Aires.
We then flew up to Posada and were driven to a ranch in the middle of an extensive marsh (Esteros del Iberá). We stayed in a building which dates from the 16th century. The owner, an expert in the local wildlife, took us out twice a day in a 4WD and also a motorised canoe.
The marsh is home to a species of small alligator, called caiman
It is also home to capybara, rodents akin to giant guinea pigs.
